Easy Summer Entertaining
By Gracie Hunt, Events Director

Here comes Summer! Every year we dust off our grills, take the cover off the pool and await the coming of the long days out boating, sitting by the lake, or taking a long hike on a sunny day. Most of us welcome summer by hosting or attending the ever-anticipated Memorial Day Cookout!

Looking for a refreshing addition to your Memorial Day BBQ? Here's a great way to end a meal and not feel weighed down afterwards.

2 Tbsp light brown sugar
3 Tbsp fresh lime juice
2 Tbsp fresh mint, chopped
1 cup cantaloupe, cubed
1 cup watermelon, cubed
1 cup honeydew melon, cubed
1 cup red globe grapes, halved

Combine first 3 ingredients in a small bowl; stir with a whisk (sugar does not have to dissolve). Place fruit in a shallow bowl; pour lime mixture over fruit. Toss gently to coat; let stand 5 minutes.

Yield: 4 - 1 cup servings.

Michale Bail's Preparation for a Summer Cruise Turned into a Lifestyle Change

If you are in the club in the mornings, you have undoubtedly gotten to know Michael Bails. He initially decided to start working with a trainer in the Spring to lose a few pounds and tone up for a late Summer cruise, but very quickly realized that he wanted to enjoy the benefits long term. Michael has made the shift from simple weight loss goals to maintaining his reestablished healthy lifestyle. He trains with Jeff Bates once per week and also works with Danielle Zack in the Pilates studio. Outside of that, Michael works out twice per week on his own and sustains healthy, realistic eating habits.

"Having been a member for some time here at the SAC, I've found it ever so increasingly difficult to keep my motivation with a consistent, disciplined workout routine. This past year, with a vacation cruise as my goal, I decided to really get serious. Having worked with Jeff and Danielle on a weekly basis, as well as staying on-track with nutrition, I was able to lose almost 20 pounds through the summer months. I must say that the key factor for me has been the nutrition part. Jeff was instrumental with check-ins on the "what, how and why" of my eating habits... and he continues to do so. Also, the balance of weight training with Pilates seems to work well for my body in building and maintaining strength and keeping my metabolism working on a higher level. I can't thank these two enough in what they've done to keep me on track!"

    Generation of Power
By Personal Fitness Trainer, Adriana Allison

When you think of power, do you think of big beefy guys with lots of muscles lifting heavy weight over their head? I'm sure picking up your baby off the floor isn't the first thing that comes to mind. Or picking up your box of old books off the bottom shelf of the closet and moving them up onto your desktop. But it's all the same.
