A Home Remedy for Stiff and Cranky Necks
By Massage Director, Jessie Jo Egersett

If your neck suffers from minor aches and pains or you expereince tension related headaches this easy remedy is just for you. I am sure you have seen those microwavable hot packs at your local co-op, here is an easy and cost effective alternative you can make at home.

Take a tall sock (tube style works great) and fill it up with uncooked, dry rice of any nature. Tie a good knot at the top end of the sock and put it in the microwave for about 2 minutes. Time may vary depending on your microwave. When it is nice and warm, drape it around your neck or place it under a tight spot and lie on top of it. It should put out a nice moist heat~ yum! If you would like to make it an aromatic experience you can add a pinch or two of your favorite dried herbs such as lavender or sage to the dry rice before putting it in the microwave.

Voila! Cozy up and soften those aches and pains away!

Instructor Spotlight
By Yoga Instructor, Fran Gallo

From the first time I took a yoga class, I could see my entire life begin to move toward a more positive direction. As I worked hard at this new discipline, I saw my life come together. Negative, draining, unhealthy relationships faded away. Family relationships and friendships strengthened and became more fulfilling. I started to gain in self-confidence and found myself wanting to be a better person, one who is generous, altruistic, and true to her word.

How can I explain it? I believe that in taking up a discipline such as Yoga one develops a deeper sense of awareness that permeates every aspect of life. This deeper awareness led me to examine my life from every angle, and this consciousness keeps unfolding. As I work diligently on the physical postures (asana), on the study and application of the yamas and the niyamas, which are moral guidelines and observances, on the study of the energy centers (chakras) representing areas of human spiritual growth, I see my full potential unfolding.

My body feels strong, limber, and free from tension. I can live out my dreams and work with diligence without having to deal with a dis-eased body or one that is cranky and fatigued.

My yoga practice energizes me to help others and opens extra time to lead a life of enrichment. My mind is clear so I can enjoy nature around me and experience quiet time to reflect on how I interact with myself and with the world around me.

Yoga is a stanchion of health. Yoga is not just about stretching and strengthening the body. It is also about eating properly and purifying the body. It enhances the spirit. Yoga provides a retreat from the busy-ness and pressures of every day life— and a consistent yoga practice can make a person stronger, more balanced, and more flexible, allowing one to take life in stride.

Water Aerobics

Water Aerobics is great for the individual looking for a challenging non-impact workout. This class helps build/maintain endurance, tones and strengthens the muscles of the body and is an excellent form of conditioning.

This class is not just about swimming and it can be a perfect exercise regimen for everyone- even fitness novices. Aerobic water exercise allows you to burn calories and build on your own strength and flexibility. The buoyancy offered by the water causes less strain on your joints and muscles. It is not essential to be a swimmer to participate in water aerobic exercise.

The advantage of exercising in water is that it offers resistance in all directions as opposed to land exercises where you work only against gravity. This multi-directional resistance is also excellent rehabilitating exercise, pregnancy, and injury prevention.

Come join in the fun. We have a new format and exciting music and the Friday 45 minute class is a great start to your weekend. Work out in the water until 9:15 with plenty of time join in the Yoga class at 9:30.
