Metabolic Testing & Weight Loss

HOW WILL KNOWING MY METABOLISM HELP ME REACH MY WEIGHT LOSS GOALS?

The key to weight loss is to burn more calories than are consumed. But, how much does an individual need to cut back to actually lose weight? A Resting Metabolic Test answers that question. By eating to your precise metabolic needs, you will be able to eat as many calories as possible, and still lose weight. This has 2 major benefits. First, there will be greater compliance to the diet since you are not hungry or tired all the time. Second, the maintenance phase is simply a small increase in caloric intake. Thus, you will "re-learn" what it means to eat for your metabolism.

HOW WILL KNOWING MY METABOLIC RATE CHANGE DURING A WEIGHT LOSS PROGRAM?

Many factors can affect a persons Metabolic rate. These factors include body composition, exercise, and diet. Changes in any or all of these factors can alter metabolic rate during the course of a weight loss regimen. Assessing the success of individual weight loss strategies can be accomplished by re-testing metabolic rate over the course of a program. Regular testing is available at the Seattle Athletic Club – Downtown by contacting a Personal Fitness Trainer.

STAYING MOTIVATED

With our Resting Metabolic Rate machine, you can take back control of your life! You no longer have to rely on charts and averages. With measurements that are unique to you and your body, you will be able to make the choices that will benefit you the most in achieving your weight loss goals.

Spring Cleaning
By Massage Director, Jessie Jo Egersett

That which is ground into us during the winter comes forth into full bloom during spring. It is later to be nourished by the summer sun and to bear forth fruit in the time of autumn.

March 21st represents the spring equinox, the time when day equals night. Time to sparkle and be filled with the inspiration of and newfound energy to act upon you ideas that have been milling about all winter.

What do you want to clear out? In your environment? In your internal landscape? In yourself? What do you want to bring forth into fruition? This is the time to cultivate new beginnings, buds transforming into blossoms. In the spring all living things are reborn!

One of the many things to do besides cleaning out the closets is cleansing your body. As many texts say, the body is a temple to be adorned and well kept. In addition to setting goals and eating the new spring crops is body therapy. Massage in a therapeutic manner helps in releasing tension in muscles, ligaments, tendon and organs. It helps in a very tactile way in the gross form but also in a more subtle form, shifting the bodies energy and affecting the energetic pathways in the bodies highways of nerves and fluid. Bodywork also incorporates the use of the breath, the bodies thread to life. As your awareness deepens around your breath your ability to relax into your environment expands internally. Giving you the opportunity to cultivate the “important’ things in life, reaching deeper into the amazing experience of being alive.

A one-hour massage is equal on the circulatory system as a 7-mile hike! Wow! That is how much fluid gets pushed around. If that is not cleansing- I don't know what is!

Swim Conditioning

Swim conditioning is similar to what you would hear as “Masters Swimming” however; here at the club we have made our swim conditioning program accessible for all fitness levels and abilities. Here are some commonly asked questions:

DO I NEED TO KNOW HOW TO SWIM?
Yes! At least 4 lengths without stopping, but you can do ANY form of getting from one end to the next. " We define "swimming" as simply moving through the water.

DO I NEED TO KNOW HOW TO DO THE BUTTERFLY OR THE OTHER STROKES?
No! You can just use the freestyle (crawl stroke), we do not require you to do anything you do not want to. There are benefits to learning the other strokes- improving fitness, working different muscle groups etc, and eventually you will learn how to do some of the other strokes.

DO I NEED TO SWIM THE WHOLE HOUR?
No. If you can come for 20 or 30 minutes we love having you!! You have to start somewhere!

WHAT IS THE WORKOUT LIKE?
We vary the workouts sometimes focusing on endurance, sometimes speed, some stroke technique, but better yet, we modify the workout for you based on where you are at with your swim fitness.

I AM NEW AND/OR I AM DOING MY FIRST TRIATHLON, WHAT CLASS SHOULD I GO TO?
You could go to any class! However, the swim class on Wednesday nights is a bit more focused on teaching you how to read the workout and stroke technique. As mentioned above, you can come to any class to get started.
