Ride For Augie

In our mission to raise awareness and money for ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) we will be hosting three exciting "Ride for Augie" 1½ hour spinning and weight training classes. Come join the SAC team to help raise money to find a cure for ALS. Members and non-members are welcome!

ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Motor neurons reach from the brain to the spinal cord and from the spinal cord to the muscles throughout the body. The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually leads to their death. When the motor neurons die, the ability of the brain to initiate and control muscle movement is lost. With voluntary muscle action progressively affected, patients in the later stages of the disease may become totally paralyzed.

Ways in which you can help:
Bring in your guests – All guest fee’s will be donated to ALS
Join in one of our “Ride for Augie” 1 ½ hour spinning and weight training classes and make a donation
Make a one time donation

Club Closure Recap

As you are aware, during the week of September 2nd - 5th the club performed our annual club closure in which we performed extensive deep cleaning and repainting of the entire club. You also may have noticed some additional projects, such as new grout encasement of all tile areas in locker rooms and the refinishing of our Group Exercise and Racquetball Court floors.

While closure has come and gone, you will still notice work continuing on some larger-scale projects. One of the larger projects we have undertaken is a club-wide energy conservation project and electrical retrofit. This project includes new motion sensors and lighting fixtures throughout the club to help conserve electricity and reduce our carbon footprint.

We have also initiated a complete overhaul of our computer network including brand new servers and club membership management systems. Once completed, our new system will greatly enhance member service and convenience including the ability to access and manage your club membership account online.

We appreciate your patience as we work towards completion of these projects and hope you find them a responsible and useful addition to your membership at the club.

By Amy Sommer, Pilates Instructor

At Seattle Athletic Club, we are widely recognized for our superior squash program. More than 500 members compete in tournaments, and many people seek out our club to study with the legendary Khan family. Coincidentally, Seattle Athletic Club also has an excellent authentic Pilates program. All of the instructors have graduated from the most rigorous authentic training program, under the tutelage of master teachers hand-picked by Joseph Pilates and his protégés. The common denominator here is the availability to receive the best cross-training method in addition to the best squash instruction.

Kate Colver has been a triathlete for year and signed up for Ironman Canada with her husband, John. Kate finished in a time of 12:26. She was super strong in all three disciples. Great job in your first ironman!

LISA OHGE - IRONMAN CANADA
Lisa Ohge had a three-hour PR over her previous ironman, coming in at 13 hours and 45 minutes. She dropped time in all three events as she trained hard by participating in swim classes and track workouts. Nice job Lisa!

DARIN SMITH - IRONMAN CANADA
Darin Smith compete in his 5th ironman ever. This one, however, was over an hour faster than all his other ironman races. Darin finished in 12:24. With huge improvements in his run and bike splits. Awesome work Darin!
