Cookies for Claudine
Wednesday, October 5 look for Amanda Goddard (the newest addition to the amazing Massage staff) in the lobby where I will be selling scrumptious baked goods and raising funds to send a very bright young girl to school in Haiti.
I spent 5 months of last year doing relief work at a hospital in Haiti after the Jan 12 earthquake devastated much of the country. During my time working at the hospital I became close with a young 12-year-old girl named Claudine. Claudine is very smart and desperately wanted to continue her education. However, school is very expensive for the average Haitian family and there was just no way for her mother to pay the school fees. After much research and testing we found out Claudine actually qualified to go to one of the best secondary schools in Haiti!! Claudine is now about to start her second year at this amazing secondary school and I am trying to raise funds to pay for this year’s tuition. Stop by and see me in the lobby October 5, purchase some great treats, and know you are helping a smart young girl get an education.

Member Spotlight: Dr. Richard Arnold
Rick started taking private, weekly Pilates because he was concerned about his posture and core strength. He periodically had back problems which he believes are primarily iliopsoas strains and quadratus lumborum tightness. He knows that core strength is critical to preventing such problems. In addition he has a family history of osteoarthritis and he feared that his poor posture and inflexibility set him up for similar problems. He had heard that pilates was helpful for core strength, improving flexibility and posture and since he had a free hour class from the summer rewards program, he thought he would give it a try.
“I think pilates has helped a great deal, though obviously it's still a work in progress. My back problems have melted away, I can reach my toes on most days and I think I'm internalizing Danielle's voice in my head to, "Scoop and open up your chest,” so that I'm much more mindful of my posture.”
There are a lot of things Rick enjoys about Pilates, including three major points; 1) He feels like he is making progress, 2) His instructor Danielle is always pushing him further “in a pleasant way”, and 3) He has fun! Rick says, “The Pilates studio seems always to be filled with laughter as we joke and lament our way through class. I look forward to it every week!”
